Ernest Hemingway en Cuba

Ernest Hemingway tenía un profundo amor por Cuba y La Habana, donde pasó muchos años de su vida. En una entrevista en español en 1954 después de ganar el Premio Nobel, Hemingway dijo: "Estoy muy contento de ser el primer cubano en ganar este premio. Estoy alegre de que han dicho las autoridades que está basado en un paisaje cubano". Esto muestra su conexión con la isla y cómo influyó en su obra.

Hemingway encontró en Cuba un refugio para escapar del mundo y escribir en paz, especialmente en su finca Finca Vigía cerca de La Habana. Según Gabriel García Márquez, cuando Hemingway escogía lugares para escribir, su preferencia por el hotel Ambos Mundos en La Habana "solo podría tener una explicación: sin proponérselo, tal vez sin saberlo, estaba sucumbiendo a otros encantos de Cuba, distintos y más difíciles de descifrar que los grandes peces de septiembre y más importante para su alma en pena que las cuatro paredes de su cuarto".

La pesca parece haber sido una de las principales razones que llevaron a Hemingway a La Habana, donde disfrutó de la mejor pesca que había visto en su vida. Su amor por Cuba se refleja en su obra y en su vida, pasando décadas en la isla hasta su muerte en 1961.

 Ernest Hemingway had a deep love for Cuba and Havana, where he spent many years of his life. In a Spanish interview in 1954 after winning the Nobel Prize, Hemingway said: "I am very happy to be the first Cuban to win this prize. I am glad that the authorities have said it is based on a Cuban landscape". This shows his connection to the island and how it influenced his work.

Hemingway found in Cuba a refuge to escape the world and write in peace, especially at his Finca Vigía estate near Havana. According to Gabriel García Márquez, when Hemingway chose places to write, his preference for the Hotel Ambos Mundos in Havana "could only have one explanation: without intending to, perhaps without knowing it, he was succumbing to other charms of Cuba, different and more difficult to decipher than the great fish of September and more important for his troubled soul than the four walls of his room".

Fishing seems to have been one of the main reasons that brought Hemingway to Havana, where he enjoyed the best fishing he had ever seen in his life. His love for Cuba is reflected in his work and life, spending decades on the island until his death in 1961.
